“I’m Basically A Hobbit Raised By Leprechauns!”

Hi there, I’m Tara. I’m a 27yr old pharmacist/artist/writer. I was born in New Zealand and raised in Ireland. This strange background could account for my accent. Most people seem to think I sound Canadian. In fact I have had Canadians ask what part of Canada I was from. However, to the perceptive few I’ve got a fairly Irish accent – just ask me to say thirty three and a third. Having been born in NZ and raised in Ireland, this awarded me the advantage of dual nationality, meaning two passports. This has made my travels a lot easier, though perhaps not my self-identity. Am I Kiwi? Am I Irish? Am I both? Am I neither? I’ve settled for both. Basically I’m a hobbit raised by leprechauns.

I’ve always travelled a fair amount. It’s in my blood. My mother had a habit of booking last minute flights and whisking me and my sister away places. I blame her for my itchy feet. Ever since I was a child I’ve always thought that there was a whole wide world out there to explore and I was going to see it. I remember looking at my mother and thinking, “I want to be like her, I want to have lived in foreign lands and have exciting stories to tell my children.” I’ve notched up a few places, and I’m working on some more. For me, it’s less about the amount of countries I’ve seen and more about the extraordinary experiences I have had while there. I’ve been lucky enough to experience some wonderful things such as training Japanese ninjutsu with grand master Hatsumi (The last living ninja) in Japan, climbing the Inca trail in Peru, horse riding up a volcano in Iceland, getting lost in the favelas of Rio, Brazil and many more.

This blog aims to provide a refreshingly honest female view on adventure travel, affordable luxury and how to look good while travelling. Hopefully you’ll find some of my posts useful, or at least entertaining.

I feel like there’s so much more about myself and my life that I want to share with you guys, but we’ve only just met! Honestly, a girl needs to retain a little mystery. You can find out more about me and my wildly exciting life by reading my posts. I’ve got to keep you guessing somehow ?

I’m not sure if I have said this already, but NZ and Ireland are my two favorite places on the planet. I was lucky enough to spend a summer in NZ in high school, and made it back there a few years ago. My ancestors on my dad’s side are from Ireland and I’ve been there once. There are certain similarities between the two places, and I would happily live in either place. I’m trying to figure out how to do that with a husband who loves Southern California. Please advise.
