Friday Five where is tara tara povey travel blog

Welcome to January’s FRIDAY FIVE, where I talk to the amazing people that actually read my blog and ask them all about THEIR travels. A perceptive handful of you may have noticed that I skipped December’s edition…….. well………. I can offer you no excuse. I was simply too busy buying presents, wearing pyjamas and eating everything. I did also go to  the Harry Potter Studio! So if you really want to know what went on in my December, have a  look at that.

BUT ENOUGH ABOUT ME, let’s talk about Jess & Mark.

JESS (Alright Blondie)

1) Tell us a bit about yourself

I’m Jess and I’m from a teeny tiny village in North Yorkshire that no one has ever heard of. I’ve spent 2015 working and travelling in Australia with my boyfriend, starting out in Perth and finishing with a shark dive in Port Lincoln. I’m spending the beginning of 2016 in South East Asia before finally heading home. After that who knows!
When I’m not busy working to fund my SE Asia trip I can be found hiking through national parks, cooing over cute dogs or blogging (link to Alright Blondie, Jess’ website can be found above).

2) What’s your craziest travel story?

It’s not exactly crazy but it’s definitely a ‘What not to do’ kinda tale!
in 2014 my boyfriend I had been saving hard to come to Australia and thought we deserved a break so we decided spur of the moment to book a 2 day trip to Barcelona.
It was all pretty spur of the moment so it wasn’t until the week before we were due to leave that we realised our bargain deal wasn’t actually that much of a bargain. We flew into Barcelona airport and flew out of Reus airport…Which was around 90 minutes away by train.
Instead of cancelling the trip we decided to go and it was just one disaster to the next. After our first day of sight seeing we decided to stay on the bus until we saw our hotel – which we did – and then we drove straight past it. We must have been on the bus for at least two hours, touring outer Barcelona until the bus finally doubled back on itself and took us to where we needed to be.
Oh and as well as that, we stayed in the green part of Barcelona which is FULL of mosquitoes. Fantastic!
Safe to say that was one trip where we were pretty glad to get home!

3) We all love travel but why do YOU love travel?

As someone who didn’t get a passport until they were 19, I had no idea just how big the world was and how easy it was to see. The minute I boarded a plane and realised just how simple it was to book a ticket, save and go I was hooked.
I love exploring and there is nothing better than that feeling you get when you’re watching a sunset or looking at a view that just leaves you speechless.
I also think travelling is the best way to learn. You learn about yourself, history, cultures, food, languages…A bit of everything really

4) Dream Travel Destination?

There’s a million and one places I still want to go to but I think a safari in Africa has to be number one. After seeing The Lion King as a kid I’ve been obsessed with lions and elephants ever since so seeing them in the wild would be mind blowing.

5) If we were going to travel together, where would we go and what would we do?

Hmm a tough one! I think I’d have to go for somewhere warm, by the ocean and ideally with a few different activities we can try out like rock climbing or kayaking. Obviously followed by some drinks…It’s what the English and the Irish are known for after all!

1) Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Mark. I am 25 yr old from New Zealand. I am a Car painter by trade and a traveller at heart! Good views, good tunes and great company make me a happy man.

2) What’s your craziest travel story?

After meeting some cool French people on a tram in Melbourne we got chatting and they said they were going to a festival in NSW. So I said “fuck it” and that night bought a ticket and put an add on Gumtree saying I needed a ride there.

So there I was 2 days later, hours away from any sort of town, in the middle of nowhere. We pulled into a small forest area with a river. I could see tents being set up and hear people playing music.
We drove into the driveway and a 50yr old man, bollock naked except for sandals and socks, came up to my window saying “tickets please” with a huge grin.

What had I come to!?

Long story short I spent the next 5 days at a hippie nudist festival, had a blast with people playing instruments, doing yoga and meditation workshops in the summer heat. Just goes to show you that you should always keep an open mind with everything you do/come across……. even if every morning you end up thinking to yourself “it’s too early for old man balls”.

3) We all love travel but why do YOU love travel?

I love travel because I genuinely believe travel makes you a better person. Once we leave our home we open ourselves up to new places, new people, new ideas and new beliefs. It’s how we let these things affect us which changes who we are and who we want to be. If you hide under a rock you wont see anything. If you open your heart to the world, you’ll see everything!

4) Dream Travel Destination?

I don’t so much have a dream destination…….. I don’t think there is anywhere I don’t want to see. I do, however, have a dream way of travelling; living in a van going where ever I felt like. I’d love to do this around Europe, chasing the sun to make summer last as long as possible!

5) If we were going to travel together, where would we go and what would we do?

I’d say we would have to go see the Northern Lights. It doesn’t get much better than getting away from all the crowds and cities to somewhere quite and peaceful to see one of natures greats!!!

Final Thoughts

Thanks guys for sharing your stories! I would LOVE to see the Northern Lights. My boyfriend saw them this year and I’m SO jealous. Jess, I love your pink hair.
